The Story Behind Muffle

Built from lived experience. Designed for a calmer world.

Muffle didn't start in a corporate boardroom. It was born out of personal necessity, sleepless nights, and a deep desire to help people with noise sensitivity regain control over their environment.

A Letter From The Creator
“For years, I felt like the world was constantly playing at full volume while everyone else had volume knobs I was missing. Muffle was built so none of us have to suffer in silence or feel misunderstood ever again.”

Chapter 01Living in a Loud World

When Sound Becomes Painful

To most people, the clatter of a coffee shop, the screech of subway brakes, or the rumble of traffic are just background noise. But for me, sound wasn't just background noise — it was sensory intensity that could drain my energy in minutes, trigger physical tension, and leave me completely overwhelmed.

Navigating daily life with noise sensitivity meant constantly guessing: Why am I so exhausted today? Was it the restaurant loud speaker? The sudden sirens outside? Or just cumulative noise exposure? Without clear answers or data, I often blamed myself for feeling overwhelmed.

Chapter 02The Search for Answers

Why Was Something So Common So Invisible?

When I looked for tools to help track my noise exposure and sensory triggers, I found almost nothing built specifically for human sensitivity. There were industrial decibel meters meant for construction workers and generic noise apps, but nothing that connected sound pressure levels directly to personal symptoms, mood impact, or safe recovery spaces.

Even worse, many existing audio apps raised serious privacy concerns. I didn't want an app recording my private conversations or storing microphone audio. I needed a tool that measured loudness while guaranteeing 100% privacy.

Chapter 03Building Muffle

From Personal Prototype to a Mission

I decided to build the exact app I needed. I designed Muffle to act as a gentle, intelligent guardian for your ears. It monitors real-time environmental decibels, alerts you before sound levels cross your personal comfort threshold, and lets you log episodes in under 20 seconds.

Crucially, I engineered Muffle from the ground up to read loudness metrics only — never recording, storing, or uploading a single byte of audio. Your conversations remain yours alone.

Using Muffle changed my life. For the first time, I could see my decibel triggers clearly, predict when I needed noise-canceling headphones, and advocate for my sensory needs with empirical confidence.

Looking Ahead

A Gift to the Community

Whether you live with ADHD, Autism, Misophonia, Hyperacusis, Migraines, or simply feel exhausted by modern noise pollution — Muffle is for you. You are not alone, your sensitivity is valid, and you deserve a tool that understands your experience.

Our Core Guiding Principles

Every line of code and feature in Muffle is built around these core promises.

100% Zero-Audio Privacy

We believe privacy is a fundamental human right. Muffle measures numeric loudness levels in RAM and immediately discards the sound data. We never record, store, or sell audio.

Empathetic Technology

Designed specifically for sensory overload, ADHD, Autism, Misophonia, and Migraines. Muffle avoids harsh alerts or overwhelming UI, opting for gentle visual indicators.
